ANDREW RAFACZ is pleased to announce The Map is Not the Territory, a group exhibition, in Gallery Two.

Chicago, IL, June 22, 2019– ANDREW RAFACZ continues the 2019 season with The Map is Not the Territory, a group exhibition of works on paper by Josh Dihle, Mika Horibuchi, Dominique Knowles, Robyn O’Neil, Ryan M Pfeifer + Rebecca Walz, and Nancy Spero. The exhibition continues through Saturday, August 3, 2019.

The Map is Not the Territory presents the work of seven artists that utilize figure and landscape in distinct ways. At times playful, provisional, intricate or formal, these works are connected by their resultant incandescence, revealing a fraction of a larger story, while being deftly connected to their maker’s respective practices.

JOSH DIHLE (American, b. 1984) lives and works in Chicago, IL. He received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012 and his BA at Middlebury College (Middlebury, VT) in 2007.

MIKA HORIBUCHI (American b. 1991) lives and works in Chicago, IL. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2013.

DOMINIQUE KNOWLES(Bahamian, b. 1996) lives and works in Chicago, IL. He will receive his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2020 and received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017.

ROBYN O’NEIL(American, b. 1977) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. She attended Werner Herzog’s Rogue Film School (Los Angeles, CA) in 2010, received her MFA from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 2001, and a BFA from Texas A&M University-Commerce (Commerce, TX) in 2000. O’Neil attended Kings College (London, England) in 1997.

RYAN M PFEIFFER + REBECCA WALZ live and work in Chicago. Ryan M Pfeiffer (American) received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. Rebecca Walz (American) received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012 and her BFA from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. They have been collaborating since 2014.

NANCY SPERO (American, b. 1926 – d. 2009) lived and worked in New York, NY. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Chicago when she was one year old. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was part of The Monster Roster.
