ANDREW RAFACZ is thrilled to announce Candies, an exhibition of new paintings by New York based painter, Jessie Edelman. The exhibition opens Friday, July 25th, and continues through Saturday, August 30th, 2025. This is the artist’s fourth solo exhibition with the gallery.
Jessie Edelman’s painting practice draws upon diverse systems of seeing and knowing. In her newest exhibition, Candies, fruit and flora take center stage—invoking a taxonomical sensibility where familiar imagery becomes a framework for complex interconnectedness.
The paintings are encased in kaleidoscopic borders that echo the visual language of 1960s psychedelia. Vivid tulip varietals and oversized citrus fruits float against dreamlike backdrops—the clearest, most saturated blue skies—creating compositions that are both whimsical and analytical.
Candies rewards close looking. The works draw viewers into a suspended space—neither standing nor lying, a weightless in-between—leading us into infinite blue voids. Images nest within images, opening meta-portals into shifting states of perception. This layered structure generates a sense of place that is at once geographic and internal, suggesting intersection, reflection, and the dual act of looking both inward and outward.
In Edelman’s work, figure and ground dissolve. Time feels paused. Sight stretches into other senses—touch, taste, smell—as the viewer is invited to navigate not by logic, but by intuition.
